Closing my Sandyisms…..

I have been too busy to write much and don’t want to continue paying $99 a year to have my own blog name. So this will be my last post. Thanks everyone for ready my stories and ramblings perhaps at a later time I will start another blog on some other free spot.

Kansas City Zoo

Last weekend hubby, myself and our two dogs went to see our kids in Grandview, MO. Our daughter and grandson came by different car.

I think that is funny because my son always said anybody from Missouri was a hillbilly and now he lives there….

Our fur babies traveled well.2016-04-22 12.45.41

Looking at the photo you see Buster’s tooth sticking out – he had gum infections so lost almost all his teeth and this one just will not stay behind him upper lip. In fact, I took him to the vet today (Monday) and found out he has cataracts that have almost blinded him. He is eleven years old, poor baby.

While in KC we made a trip to the zoo. It is a beautiful park. The landscaping is beautiful. One thing I forgot about the difference between Missouri and Kansas – Missouri is all hills so the park was a LOT of climbing hills.

Dad and I pretty much stayed at the front part of the park and let the kids go where they wanted too. (There is a 27 year difference between my twins and my age. When they are my age they will understand.)

Bob got to see his favorites thing anyway. He LOVES Penguins, has since he was 6 years old and told the kids at school at he kept on in his ice box at home.

These were being fed and are warm weather penguins.

These are Imperial Penguins and they are from the Arctic.
The glass is foggy because they have ice being sent in like a snow Icee all the time.

I am sure the sign was made for children but what is my husband but not a child when it comes to Penguins! See what I mean?

Bob and his buddy.

I finally got him away from the Penguins and onto an Elephant:

These were beautiful twirlers, there were several of them. I had to take a video of them and send to my neighbor she LOVES them.

Since last CT

The last CT we had of mom showed nothing new. She is still losing weight and waiting….. that is all I can explain about it. Clinically her health is good, she just has a tumor in her abdomen that is sitting there. They THINK it is connected to her colon but can’t be sure without doing an operation. She doesn’t want a biopsy or surgery so she sits.

If you have ever had to go through this with your parents you know what I mean. You love them and you want to take care of them. Yet this was first diagnosed in Nov. 2015. It has been 5 months of really not knowing much.

I have to shop for her, I take her out to eat when she wants to go. She wants me to come over and sit and visit everyday. (If she had her way I would live there.) Please don’t get me wrong, I do love my mom but some days I could punch a hole in the wall.

Her mind is going some; she has a lot of confusion; repeating herself; not remembering things she said yesterday. Then she gets argumentative and yells at me because I can’t figure out what she is pointing to or trying to remember. She thinks people are stealing things out of her house or moving things around. She is the only one there.

Today was a tough day; really tough. I had to just leave. She was telling me today that I think she is dumb. I told her I didn’t think she was dumb. I ask when did I say you are dumb or made you feel that way? She couldn’t remember but she said she would let me know the next time.

I know I am not alone in this. In 2010 in Feb. I sat with my sister as she died; then in September I sat with my dad as he died. I have been through death. I have even lost a child and grandparents and uncles. Yet I have never been though this.

Thanks for listening to me get this out of my system. I am not perfect but with God’s help I am trying to take care of her.

New CT

As I wrote earlier I have decided my mom needs another CT to see what is going on. We had to suspend Hospice so she could go back on Medicare. I wrote her doctor a note and he got back to me with in one hour with an appointment for her. So I believe he too is wondering what the tumor is doing. It has been two months since we found it and not much has happened.

She goes in Monday for a blood workup and a CT w/o contrast and one with it. I don’t know if he will send us to an oncologist or if he will just get the details and let us know. She and I both would love to see the CT’s; we are a see it to believe it kind of family.

When we suspended Hospice they had to take her wheeled walker and her stool that fits in the bathtub for her to sit while showering. But Praise be to God; I called Helping Hands and they gave us a Nova Scooter for her and one of her friends had a bath stool. So she can still get around okay. She is rather weak and needs to hold on to something to walk.

We will be anxious to find out midweek what is going on.

My hubby has been busy – he fixed our sliding door so it moves more easily and fixed the lock on it. It had become very hard to get it closed so we could lock it. He also put new dead bolt and door knob on the front door and door knob on the door to the garage – all with matching keys. HEY…. Until now the only way in was through the garage door. The realtors did not have keys to our place since it was a foreclosure.

I will keep you posted.

Mom and I

My Mom and I

It has been awhile since I have blogged. My life has sort of changed; it comes to all families eventually.

I am caring for my 86 year old mom. We found out in November when she took a fall that she has intestinal cancer. It is growing into her colon on the right side. Upon her doctor’s suggestion we have put her on Hospice. She chose not to have any surgery or biopsies.

Had she chosen too she may not have made it out of surgery or she would have ended up in a retirement home on a respirator. She did not want that.

Unfortunately she has been slowed down since she broke her back in a fall in 2012. Because of this the doctor did not feel that she was physical enough to undergo the surgery needed.

I was at her house 24/7 for a while but she is now able to do most everything herself. She is not in pain; though she feels a little pain once in a while. I am glad that God is watching over her. No one wants to have someone there all the time. You feel you have lost your freedom.

Hospice gives her bath’s two times a week; the nurse comes in once a week and a social worker is there every two weeks. All making sure she is cared for.

I know the time will come when I will have to be there all the time again and I will be. My mom took care of me and I shall take care of her. She does have short term memory loss; but hey, I have some of that!

Five years ago I went through this with my dad and though I don’t look forward to seeing her suffer I will be there this time also.

They don’t classify stomach cancer like they do other cancers – Stages 1, 2 etc….. we just have to wait and see what will happen. That is concerning to Mom and I; we would like to see if the tumor is growing – if it is attaching to anything else. Hospice says they don’t worry about that. They make the patient comfortable until their time comes.

In the mean time we worry and wait.

Two Wheel’s Challenge

I belong to a Photo Challenge group and each month they change what we need to find and photograph.

This month it is: TWO WHEEL’s – anything from motorcycles or bicycles or whatever you find.

I took the challenge and have posted a few and still have a few to go but I will post them here.

When I stopped to take this one today, the older gentleman that owns the property was mowing his yard. He must have been close to 90 and still on a riding lawn mower. After I took the shot he said he was going to get some water. Thank goodness I was a little concerned about him!

Air compressor

This is my hubby’s pride and joy. He blows out our water system in the late fall, he airs up tires, he blows the dirt out of the garage with it. I have hinted for a power nail gun for crafts but I think he is afraid I will hurt myself with it.

Power lift

And of course something every guy needs to change his truck tires in the winter.

Trash cartI

I believe we all have one of there that go to the curb once every week.

Look around and see what you can find on two wheels.

Colorado – Bucket List item – Ziplining in the mountains

Last weekend my husband, daughter and grandson went to Colorado. Brenton’s first time in the mountain’s; kind of his last woo-raw before starting WSU soon.

Jennifer hadn’t been to CO but twice before and different places each time. Once for a family reunion in Coaldale, CO where we had a ball; she rode horseback but got so sunburned that she didn’t get to go on the White Water Rafting trip with us. Hundreds of hummingbirds were around us all the time. Her twin brother found out he liked rhubarb and strawberry pie, and proceeded to eat it every night. It was down in a valley and we had the Colorado River right behind our cabins where my father would fish every day.

This is their trip to Colorado….. I hope they were stopped when they took this photo. I think they had stopped for lunch in Colby.

Brenton’s first time in Colorado…. so he and his mom had to jump for joy.

2015-07-28 17.40.49

Then they got to Estes Park where they would go on the ATV trip. What is with the jumping? ha

Dad was in the middle with Brenton on one side and Jen taking the photo.

Water falls.

The guide let them get out and walk around so it wasn’t like they were stuck in the ATV.

Photo bombed by a minivan!

2015-07-25 18.55.10

He took a photo of all of them. You can see my grandson is getting to be a tall guy. He turns 18 this month. He is much taller than grandpa and his mom. His great-grandpa would be so proud of him.

Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO; there are haunted tours of this hotel, but after our last adventure to Wilson, KS by daughter said NO, thank you.

2015-07-28 17.47.40

Note Brenton on both sides of this photo – the guide showed my daughter how to capture that. Pretty cool. I will have to try it sometime.

2015-07-28 17.49.10

Leaving Estes Park, they headed back to Idaho Springs, CO. Now it is time to rest and get ready to Zip Line tomorrow.

The first night they ate at The Cheesecake Factory, the second night at the California Pizza Company. (So jealous, as I stayed home to care for our doggies.)

2015-07-26 15.29.42

Bob checking out how high they are. He doesn’t like heights.

2015-07-27 19.11.50

All geared up and ready to Zip Line. There were six different zip lines they got to go one.

2015-07-26 15.29.14

Bob going down

2015-07-28 17.45.04

Brenton going down

2015-07-28 17.45.21

And Jennifer coming down.

They LOVED it, after the worry about the height there were no problems after the first ride they were ready to hit all of them and did. Bob even said he might have done the Bunging Jump had they had time. What will be next jumping out of an airplane?
